The idea for starting this website came in September 2022. September is considered to be the month of Colorblindness awareness among other things.

A bit of background to this story. I never knew that I was colorblind. There wasn’t a system that recognises color blind people at an early age. At least that is applicable for my country and the 90s. Now when I look back at things, I always struggled with arts in school. I even had to do an extra curricular activities in arts in high school just to get a passing grade. On the other hand, I had always been creative and did great sketches, but as soon as I had to paint something in color, that’s where I screwed things up.

There used to be crayons that have the name of the color on the side and I used to be really good with those, but whenever I had to pick up the brush and work off the color pallet, that’s when things started to go off.

Around 2018 a friend of mine showed me a video of an US marine, a buff dude breaking down and crying himself out just by putting on a pair of glasses. I did a bit more research and figured out that he tried something called Enchroma color blindness glasses. I popped to their site and found out that they have this Ishihara color plate test. Took it and got back a result that I have a strong deutan vision. I had no idea what it meant at that time.

Jumped on the phone with my optometrist and they suggested that I retake the test multiple times as our eyes tend to adjust overtime. I’ll probably do a separate blog on the proper way to test yourself and how to get the best results so you can get the glasses that will help you the most.

I have been blessed enough to have the best wife ever that back in 2019 bought me a pair of Enchroma Derby Deutan color blind glasses. That moment when I first put them on, changed my life forever. I’ll be posting regularly about the experiences I’ve had since then. Fast forwarding to September 2022 and why that was important, there were a number of giveaways by all of the color enhancement eyewear manufacturers, and considering that I’ve had my first pair for 3+ years at that moment, I decided to try my luck and see if I can get a new pair in case the ones that I have start to deteriorate.

Well in September 2022, I was fortunate enough to win a brand new pair of Coloron 2 in 1 clip ons and a new pair of Enchroma Deutan glasses. That encouraged me to set up a page where I can share my honest opinion about the experience I have with the colorblind glasses by the different manufacturers.

Having already experienced the Color enhanced lifestyle, I became more aware about the true colors of the world. Trust me it’s much more colorful, much more cheerful and more beautiful. Being able to see the difference and experience what I think is close to real, normal color vision is definitely something that needs to be shared.

That’s why I decided to jump on the trail to acquire and compare the effects of different color enhancement glasses and share my honest, personal opinions of them.

With that, the life of That Colorblind Guy begins.

P.S. a fun sidenote: I created the website and the visual assets without wearing any color enhancing eyewear. I believe that the color in the logo, my background and the one used for accents of the site is the same, or at least fairly similar. (I know it’s not, I’ve seen it with my glasses and checked the hex code, but decided to keep it as is. I believe that all colors are something like Sunrise Yellows)
